16.09.2012 - 26.09.2012: Jivamukti & Kirtan retreat with Petros Haffenrichter & Dave Stringer
Jivamukti Asana & Bhakti Intensive with Petros & Dave Stringer
Dave Stringer has been profiled in Time, Billboard, In Style, and Yoga Journal as a leader of the new American kirtan movement. Kirtan (from the Sanskrit word meaning “to sing”) is an ancient practice of mantra chanting that has become popular as a participatory live music experience in hundreds of yoga studios across the U.S. As Dave says, at a kirtan “You’re not just listening to the music, you are the music.“
Dave’s sound marries the transcendent mysticism of traditional Indian instruments with the exuberant, groove-oriented sound of American gospel music. A spontaneous and articulate public speaker, he probes the dilemmas of the spirit with a sly and unorthodox sense of humor. His work translates the ancient traditions of kirtan and yoga into inspiring and thoroughly modern participatory theatre, open to a multiplicity of interpretations, and accessible to all.
Initially trained as a visual artist and jazz musician, Dave started chanting in the early 1990’s when a film editing project brought him to the ashram of Swami Muktananda in India. When the editing project ended, he remained in India to teach school in a rural village, and continued studying the traditions of yoga with Swami Chidvilasananda. After returning to the US, Dave taught meditation and chanting to prison inmates, and began leading kirtans at yoga studios in Los Angeles and Chicago.
Petros is Advanced Jivamukti Yoga Teacher, lives, teaches and sings in Munich, Germany and gives workshops, kirtans and retreats throughout the planet. He wants to inspire his students to do – whatever you do – in full awareness, and to do it with your heart. So we can always return to that place where – independently from outer circumstance – we always will find peace: within our hearts. Many times we’ll meet obstacles on this path: our intellect, our body, our expectations and preferences. Yoga gives us the possibility to free ourselves from these hindrances that keep us from experiencing our true nature – that, what we really are: free, wild, full of love and joy – without conditioning, without fear. He is thankful for all teachers and circumstance that give us the chance to experience this feeling of unity, of non-separateness – to eventually learn to accept the greatest of all teachers: our life itself. Omshanti.
Experience ten intensive days with Dave & Petros at the wonderful, magical south-coast of Crete. We live above the Libyan Sea, in quiet and beautiful environment. We will practice daily Meditation, Asana, Kriya, Pranayama and of course Bhakti Yoga, the Yoga of devotion and love. In the morning time we will start with a Meditation practice, followed by Kriya, Asana and Pranayama – with a daily changing focus. On the afternoons the endless, wild beaches and the great nature of Crete is inviting us for lazy hangouts and discovery tours.
Of course Petros will give insider-information about the nicest spots and sights of the area.
At the Triopetra-Yoga-Retreat you can also paint and do small courses in macrobiotic cooking. Also, Shiatsu-Massages are being offered. But no “have-to-do’s” everything as the moment will bring it.
On the the later afternoons we meet for the chanting sessions with David - straight from the heart, right into the sunset….
